CCL 6 starts with a thumping win by Tuskers United against the Titans

The sixth edition of Calpine Cricket League (CCL) started today with a thumping win by Tuskers United against the Titans. The might of the Tuskers crushed the Titans by 9 wickets in a rather low scoring first match of the season.

CCL started in a sombre mood as players of both teams observed 63 seconds silence in respect of Phil Hughes, the Australian batsman who lost his life while batting in a first class match at the iconic SCG. When tragedy struck, Hughes was batting at 63 not out and hence the observance of silence for 63 seconds.

On winning the toss, Titans’ captain Sandeep decided to bat first. Sumesh N and Sujith opened the innings for the Titans and they made steady progress in the first two overs. It was Ben who drew first blood for the Tuskers, when he had Sumesh N caught by Ajeesh at mid wicket off the first ball of his second over. With the third ball of the same over Ben got the prize scalp of Sujith when he bowled the Titans’ star batsman for a meagre score of 7. Deepak and Denny then joined together in the middle and went on with the resurrection work. However they too fell midway while trying to improve the scoring rate. Denny was the top scorer of the Titans with 19 runs in 10 balls, while Deepak made 11 and Piyoosh made 10. For the Tuskers, Ajeesh took 3 wickets while Ben and Aneesh chipped in with two each. In the allocated 10 overs the Titans made 72 runs with the loss of 8 wickets.

Chasing a score of 73 runs, the Tuskers always looked in command and never appeared to have lost the plot. Saravanan and Ben started off well for the Tuskers and made a robust start for the team. Both batsmen looked in top form and hit some delightful strokes that made the ball disappear often across the fence. They were also quite good at taking singles and rotating the strike. The Titans found it quite difficult to dislodge the two opening batsmen. At last their efforts paid off when Sumesh took the wicket of Saravanan, but by then the match was virtually over. Tuskers were able to get to their target easily in 7.5 overs.

Ben was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
