CCL7: Master Blasters starts with a blast, beats Rising Stars by 7 wickets

Another season of the Calpine Cricket League (CCL) has started and in the first match Master Blasters beat the Rising Stars by 7 wickets.

Winning the toss the Blasters decided to field first. Rising Stars opened with captain Baji and Vishnu. Baji fell after facing three balls and he was replaced by Sumesh. The new batsman was unable to last long and fell without opening his account. Sreekanth was the next man in and he also fell without troubling the scorers. Though Vishnu secured one end, Stars’ innings was in danger of sinking when Aneesh came to their rescue. With his characteristic style of running quick singles, Aneesh gave good company to Vishnu and moved the scoreboard forward. Excellent fielding and catching by the Blasters made life difficult for the Stars’ batsmen and they were made to work hard to earn each and every run. The Stars lost wickets at regular intervals and at the end they were able to make only 52 runs in their allotted 10 overs. Aneesh was the top scorer with 14 runs, while Vishnu made 13. Abhin took 3 wickets for the Blasters.

Chasing a target of 53 runs, Blasters started their innings with Denny and Sujith as openers. Though they lost Denny in the second over of their innings, Blasters was well served by Sujith at the top as he hit some beautiful shots to the fence. Fours and sixes flew off his bat and one of his sixes went out of the ground to hit the adjacent building. Abhin played a good hand with the bat as well as the Blasters chased down the target in the seventh over with the loss of three wickets. Sumesh bowled well for the Stars as he picked up 2 wickets for just 6 runs.

Sujith was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match winning innings.
