Titans swept away by the Stormers

Stormers is quickly becoming the team to beat in the sixth edition of CCL. In today’s match Stormers defeated Titans by a big margin of 27 runs.

On winning the toss Titans elected to field first, a tradition followed by captains of all teams in this season. Sent into bat the Stormers started with their in-form openers Ranjith E and Vijai. Sumesh started the bowling for the Titans and in the first over itself Stormers made their intentions clear. They were definitely focused on taking ones and twos, but were never against hitting the long balls towards the fence. Stormers’ openers were going on their merry way when Sandeep brought back the Titans with a double strike that saw the wickets of both Ranjith E and Vijai falling in quick succession. However the Stormers got to their full flow with the blitzkrieg of Renjith Kumar. He appeared to be in the mood for big hits and took the Titans bowlers to task. In the course of the innings he reached his maiden half century in CCL. Stormers amassed a massive 96 runs in their 10 overs.

It was always going to be a difficult target for the Titans to score 97 runs in 10 overs against the formidable bowling line-up of the Stormers. Titans discerned the degree of difficulty in chasing the score when they lost their star batsman Sujith in the second over of the innings. Denny and Sumesh, who followed Sujith to the crease, were also unable to fire the scoring rate and fell for paltry scores. Deepak, who was the opening partner of Sujith, was not getting enough support from the other end till Baji came to join him in the middle. Both batsmen tried to steady the rocking ship with a good partnership and to some extent they were able to do so as well. However Deepak and Baji fell soon while trying to up the ante and the batsmen who followed them tried their bit, but by then the required run rate shot up rather too high. In the end Titans was able to make score only 69 runs in 10 overs with the loss of 6 wickets.

Renjith Kumar was adjudged the Man of the Match.
