Tuskers United comes on top in a high-scoring thriller
Thrilling matches have become norm, rather than the exception, in this sixth edition of Calpine Cricket League. In a high-scoring thriller today, Tuskers United defeated the Legends by 10 runs.
Legends won the toss and elected to field first against the Tuskers United and it appeared to be the wise decision as it was always the chasing team that won matches in this edition of CCL. Sent into bat the Tuskers started the innings with their openers Aneesh and Ajeesh. The right-left batting combination of the Tuskers started with scoring ones and twos regularly. And when opportunities were presented to them with loose balls they took advantage of them and hit fours and sixes too. However the Legends made the breakthrough when Latheesh dismissed Ajeesh for an individual score of 32 in 19 balls. Shortly after the fall of that wicket, Tuskers lost their skipper Aneesh via a run out. The two quick wickets brought together Abhin and Saravanan in the middle. Abhin was at his imperious best and hit a quick fire 32 in just 11 balls, which included 4 lofty sixes and a four. In the final two overs of the innings, Tuskers made 33 runs and took the score to a towering 104 for the loss of 3 wickets.
In pursuit of a stiff target of 105 in 10 overs, Legends made a start that showed a lot of promise. Openers Mahadevan and Saleem started off well and they were well on course on achieving the target. Much like the openers of the Tuskers, openers of Legends also gave a lot of importance to singles and doubles and in hitting loose balls across the fence. They made sure that the run rate was always well under control during the chase. At the end of the 6th over, Legends was in a strong position of 69 runs without loss of any wicket. But things went awry from that point and wickets fell in quick succession and that increased the required run rate to unmanageable levels. Spirited bowling and fielding performances of Tuskers United made sure that Legends had a tough time in their chase. At the end, Legends fell short by 11 runs, giving Tuskers United a well deserved win.
Abhin was adjudged the Man of the Match.
