Tuskers United back to winning ways
After a slight goof up against the Titans, Tuskers United got back to winning ways as they defeated Stormers by 16 runs in the 9th match of CCL 6. Batting first in a low scoring affair, Tuskers made 73 runs in their innings and defended the score.
On winning the toss, Stormers decided to field first. Tuskers opened with their regular openers Ajeesh and Aneesh TA. But in the first over itself they lost Aneesh to a full length delivery by Stormers’ ace bowler Renjith Kumar. New captain Abhin, who followed the previous captain Aneesh, was not able to hang in there though he started with a boundary in the first ball he faced. He was sent back to the pavilion by Anas for a paltry individual score of 5. Ben, who came as a replacement to his captain, gave good company to Ajeesh and took the score forward. However the partnership didn’t last long as Noble sent back Ben. Anas, the lanky bowler who is quickly making a name in CCL as a venomous pacer was at his best and scalped 3 Tuskers wicket for just 5 runs in his 2 overs. Had it been not for the resilient batting performance of Ajeesh, Tuskers would have been bundled out for a cheaper score.
In the chase of getting over to 74 in 10 overs, Stormers started with their regular openers Ranjith E and Vijai. Though the first over went eventless, the second over was quite eventful, which included a six by Ranjith E in the second ball and wicket of Vijai in the final ball. Though Ranjith E stood like a fort at one end, wickets kept on falling at the other end. None of the other Stormers batsmen were able to give him company and wickets kept on stumbling at regular intervals. The batting team went downhill quickly and couple of run outs in the innings made things worse for the Stormers. Miserly bowling from Tuskers made sure that there was no easy run for the taking for the Stormers. While Aneesh and Basil took 2 wickets apiece, captain Abhin chipped in with a wicket. In the allotted 10 overs, Stormers were able to amass only 57 runs with a loss of 7 wickets.
Ajeesh was adjudged the Man of the Match.
